What is Mitochondrial Rescue Therapy?
Mitochondria are present in every cell in the body and are responsible for generating energy by converting nutrients, through a complex process called oxidative phosphorylation, to adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is the molecule used by the body as the energy or fuel to drive all processes occurring in the body. Without sufficient ATP production, our heart, lungs, brain, muscles, immune systems and other organs and systems cannot function properly and illness and degeneration begin to result. Different cells contain different numbers of mitochondria. Muscle cells contain thousands of mitochondria per cell.
As we age, and experience oxidative stress from environmental toxins e.g. chemicals, radiation, poor diet, pollutants, heavy metals etc., and we fail to take in enough antioxidants from our food to counter the oxidative stress, the resulting excess of free radicals leads to the loss of mitochondria, as well as damage to other tissues. This results in a reduction in power available to the body to instigate a normal healing response to tissue damage and inflammation. This is why our bodies age and deteriorate, and the faster we lose mitochondria, the faster we age and degenerate, resulting in chronic disease.
Mitochondrial Rescue Therapy involves testing Heart Rate Variability on a Kardivar machine with a 5 minute ECG, then treating the patient with powerful nutritional supplements, formulated to repair protein structures including mitochondria. Computer analysis of the ECG data collected gives a picture of how the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system) is functioning and whether it is out of balance. When the autonomic nervous system is out of balance this can impair healing, leading to the development of disease. The data also gives a view of cellular health and how much power the mitochondria are generating. If power is low, this means the body does not have enough power to heal inflammation and damaged tissue. On the basis of these results, I prescribe a combination of supplements - Carnosine, CoQ10 and Bioflavinoids - which have been shown to repair damaged mitochondria and other protein structures in the body, restoring normal function of the body's healing and repair system, as well as improved energy and resilience and adaptability. I use supplements from Mitochondrial Rescue UK. Please see their website for more detailed information about the supplements and the scientific research carried out https://www.mitochondrialrescue.com/
These supplements can be used by anyone (young and old) and have an excellent safety profile. They are used to improve performance in athletes; to counter ageing and maintain health in healthy people; and in any chronic disease e.g. autoimmune disorders, autism, ADHD, epilepsy, CFS/ME, arthritis, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, endocrine disorders, electrohypersensitivity, bowel disease etc.
